Why Fémer says "NO" to Fast Fashion

Why I chose to say no to fast fashion
In a world where trends change at breakneck speed, where clothes are mass-produced in often opaque conditions, I made the radical choice to say no to fast fashion . This choice is not simply an ethical stance: it is the foundation on which my brand, Fémer , is based, born on the Arcachon Bay, by the sea, where every resource deserves respect and value.
Fast fashion: a destructive model
Fast fashion , the model that encourages people to consume more and more, faster and faster, is based on mass production, cheap and often with little regard for the environment or human rights. Behind a low price, there are:
-
Synthetic materials derived from petroleum,
-
Polluting dyes discharged into rivers,
-
Exploited workers on the other side of the world,
-
And a mountain of textile waste incinerated or buried every year.
Faced with this observation, I wanted to create the opposite: a local, sustainable, and meaningful fashion.
A plastic-free, locally tanned marine leather
At Fémer , I make marine leather from fish skins, a fishing by-product that would otherwise be thrown away. But above all, I tan it using vegetable tanning methods , in the port of La Teste de Buch, without adding plastic, without chemical surface treatment, without synthetic varnish.
Unlike many industrial leathers or even some “fish leathers” marketed as ecological, my leather does not contain any plastic finish . It breathes, it lives, it evolves. It is not frozen under a shiny film: it is a noble, authentic and biodegradable leather .
A concrete alternative to fast fashion
Saying no to fast fashion also means saying yes to:
-
Short circuits,
-
An artisanal production,
-
A sustainable design that lasts through the seasons,
-
Reasonable, minimalist and committed consumption.
Through each piece of jewelry, each accessory or piece of leather goods, I tell another story of fashion: one that respects natural cycles, artisans, and the coastlines that sustain us .
An invitation to consume differently
I'm not just offering a product, but an alternative. A local, transparent, and sensible response to a globalized industry that has lost touch with its raw materials and its territories.
By choosing a piece of jewelry or a bag in marine leather without a plastic finish , you are choosing a living, unique material that carries a strong commitment.
